Project Background
The Shriram Millennium School appointed Soma Utilities initially under an Annual Maintenance Contract (AMC) for technical support and monthly visits. The existing Sewage Treatment Plant was not performing properly, and outlet water quality was not meeting Pollution Control Board (PCB) norms.
Key Challenges
During inspection, it was observed that the STP was not performing due to multiple design and operational issues. The liquid level in the MBBR tanks was improperly maintained, causing frequent sewage overflow and odour problems. The bar screen chamber was incorrectly designed and no bar screen was provided, leading to operational difficulties. The MGF and ACF units were under-designed, sludge recirculation and dewatering systems were missing, and overall plant operation was unstable, resulting in poor outlet water quality and non-compliance with PCB norms.
Our Solution & Results
Soma Utilities carried out complete STP repair and modification works to address the identified issues. Tank liquid levels were corrected to eliminate overflow problems, and a proper bar screen system was installed. Tertiary filtration units were upgraded, sludge recirculation and dewatering systems were provided, and an Ultrafiltration system was installed as per PCB requirements. The STP was converted into fully automatic mode, resulting in stable operation and treated water quality consistently meeting PCB norms.client has awarded us O&M instead of AMC after satisfactory work. The plant has been successfully operated and maintained by Soma Utilities for over two years.
