Background

In 2020, M/s KR Mangalam University approached Soma Utilities for the repair and Operation & Maintenance (O&M) of their Sewage Treatment Plant (STP). The plant was non-functional, and the treated water quality was far from regulatory compliance. Frequent breakdowns, foul odour, and overflow issues were disrupting daily campus operations.

Initial Site Assessment

Our engineering team conducted a detailed technical audit and identified several critical failures in the STP:

The STP was under-designed for the actual sewage load Air blowers were jammed due to improper operation and lack of maintenance Filter press pump was incorrectly selected MGF & ACF filter media were completely choked Tube settler and MBBR media were damaged Multiple pumps were burnt MS structures were heavily rusted

The plant had no proper operational control, leading to complete system failure. The primary cause of failure was improper operation and lack of professional maintenance.

Our Solution

Gracelan Utilities submitted a detailed technical report along with a complete revival plan. Based on our recommendations, we were awarded the STP repair and comprehensive O&M contract.
