STP Revival & O&M – M/s Tulasi Psychiatric Rehabilitation Centre

Location: Gurgaon Sector 64 Haryana
Plant Type: Sewage Treatment Plant (STP)
Status Before Our Work: Non-operational, poor treated water quality, PCB non- compliance
Scope of Work: Repair, Retrofit, UF Integration & Long-term O&M

Project Background

M/s Tulasi Psychiatric Rehabilitation Centre approached Soma Utilities with an urgent request to repair their non-functional STP. The plant had been operated by in-house staff since installation, but due to the absence of professional technical support, the system gradually failed. Treated water quality was not meeting Pollution Control Board (PCB) standards and the plant had virtually stopped functioning.

Key Problems Identified

During our technical audit, we found multiple critical design and operational issues: There was no bar screen chamber, allowing plastic, food waste, and debris to enter the collection tank directly. The Oil & Grease (OGC) and Bar Screen (BS) chambers were wrongly designed, causing improper separation of solids and oil. Kitchen waste, poly bags, and floating materials were choking the system. The MGF and ACF filter media were completely clogged, and both MBBR media and tube settler media were found in deteriorated condition. There were no water flow meters to track inlet and outlet quantities, and no operational logbook was maintained. All these issues were the result of casual plant operation without professional supervision.

Our Solution

After submitting a detailed inspection report and corrective action plan, the client awarded Soma Utilities the complete repair and upgradation contract, including installation of an Ultra-Filtration (UF) system as required by the Pollution Control Board.

Our scope of work included:

Installation of proper screening and pre-treatment system Correction of OGC and chamber design Cleaning and replacement of MGF, ACF, MBBR & Tube Settler media Integration of UF system for tertiary treatment Installation of flow meters and monitoring systems Complete re-commissioning and performance stabilization

Conclusion

This project highlights how professional STP operation and technical retrofitting can revive a failed sewage treatment plant. Through structured engineering upgrades and expert O&M services, Soma Utilities converted a non-working STP into a fully compliant, reliable treatment system, giving the client long-term operational peace of mind.

Results Achieved

After upgradation and re-commissioning, the STP began operating smoothly, and the treated water parameters achieved full compliance with PCB norms. The plant became stable, reliable, and capable of continuous operation without breakdowns.

Impressed with the performance, the client awarded Soma Utilities the Operation & Maintenance (O&M) contract. For the past two years, Soma Utilities has been successfully operating and maintaining the STP, ensuring consistent treated water quality and full regulatory compliance.
