Project Background
M/s Hitech Surfactant, a manufacturing unit at Sikandrabad, approached Soma Utilities
for the installation of a small prefabricated Sewage Treatment Plant (STP) for their
factory. The client needed a reliable and compliant sewage treatment solution within very
limited available space.
Major Challenges
The site had multiple constraints: Very limited space for installing a conventional STP Only one washroom in the factory connected to an underground septic tank No possibility of modifying the existing civil structure The client was not willing to carry out any major civil construction work Sewage had to be collected and treated without disturbing daily factory operations
Our Engineering Solution
To overcome these constraints, Gracelan Utilities designed a compact, smart, and cost-effective STP layout: An HDPE Equalization Tank was installed underground with brickwork to store and balance sewage flow A drain channel with a bar screen was provided before the equalization tank to remove plastics and solid waste Since there was no pantry or oily wastewater, the Oil & Grease Trap (OGC) was eliminated from the design Sewage was lifted from the equalization tank to a prefabricated MS STP plant using transfer pumps The complete STP was supplied as a compact prefabricated unit, minimizing space requirement and installation time
This design avoided any major civil work while ensuring smooth sewage collection and treatment.
Execution & Commissioning
Soma Utilities successfully: Supplied and installed the prefabricated STP system Completed piping, electrical, and mechanical integration Commissioned the plant and stabilized biological treatment Achieved treated water quality as per PCB norms
Results & Client Benefit
Factory received a fully functional STP within limited space No disruption to washroom or factory operations Treated water met Pollution Control Board standards Client now has a legally compliant sewage treatment system
Training & Handover
Our team provided complete operational training to the client’s staff for daily operation, monitoring, and basic maintenance of the STP. After successful trials, the plant was formally handed over in running condition.
